MoonWater Salon is not your average hair salon and it did not need an average website. Based in Augusta, Georgia, MoonWater is the studio of an exceptionally talented hair colorist and Redken educator with a very distinct aesthetic. Alternative, gothic, deeply personal. The brief was to take an existing brand and build a one page website around it that felt as unique as the work happening inside the salon. The creative direction drew from tarot cards, cathedral architecture and stained glass windows, and those references are not just visual flourishes. They are built into the functionality of the site. The services section features four tarot cards I illustrated by hand. The back of each card shows the service name and when you hover, the card flips to reveal the full menu with pricing. The hero section features a cathedral illustration I drew specifically for the project, with arched windows that respond on hover and reveal glimpses of the process inside. The education section, built to highlight her work as a Redken educator, uses a stained glass window illustration as its visual foundation. Every illustration on the site was created from scratch for this project. It is one of the most creatively satisfying projects I have worked on, and it shows.
